Nothing Happened to Your System
This is the part nobody tells you, so we will say it first: your solar did not break because your installer closed. The panels on your roof, the inverter on your wall and the wiring in between are physical equipment that belongs to you. They do not know the company is gone and they do not care.
What you lost is the phone number you were supposed to call. That is a real problem — but it is a much smaller one than it feels like at 9pm when nobody answers and your app has stopped reporting.
So before anything else: take a breath. You are not starting over, and you almost certainly do not need a new system.
Four Things to Do This Week
- Find your paperwork.Your install contract, the equipment list and any permit or interconnection documents. If you cannot find them, your city or co-op permit office and your utility both keep records of the install.
- Go straight to the manufacturer.Your panel and inverter warranties come from the people who made them, not from the company that bolted them down. Enphase, SolarEdge, Tesla, SMA and Fronius all honor their warranties regardless of who installed the system or whether that company still exists. Register the equipment in your own name if it is not already.
- Find out who holds your loan or lease. The finance company is almost always a separate business from the installer, and it keeps operating normally. Your payment obligation does not disappear when the installer does — and neither do your rights under that agreement. Know which one you signed.
- Get the system actually looked at.Not a sales visit. An inspection that tells you what is producing, what is not, what is still under warranty and what it would cost to fix. You cannot make a good decision without that.
What You Keep and What You Lose
Worth being straight with you, because the answer is genuinely mixed.
You keep: the equipment itself. The panel warranty, usually 25 years, which comes from the panel manufacturer. The inverter warranty, which comes from the inverter manufacturer. Your interconnection agreement with your utility. And any monitoring that runs through the manufacturer’s own platform rather than the installer’s.
You lose: the workmanship warranty. That one was only ever as good as the company behind it, and it covered the things that most often go wrong — roof penetrations, conduit, mounting, labor. If your installer handled your monitoring account under their own brand, you may lose visibility into the system too.
That gap is the real cost of an installer closing. It is also fixable, and it is most of what we get called about.
A Lot of Companies Have Closed
If your installer is gone, you have plenty of company. Since 2024, residential solar companies that have filed for bankruptcy, been sold off or simply stopped operating include Sunnova, SunPower, Freedom Forever, Titan Solar Power, ADT Solar, Vision Solar, PosiGen and Pink Energy — along with a long list of smaller Texas installers that closed quietly and without a press release.
Several of those companies sold tens of thousands of systems across Texas. If yours is not on the list, that changes nothing about what to do next. The steps above are the same either way.
Solar Service is an independent service company and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting on behalf of any company named on this page. Those names appear only to help homeowners identify their own situation.
This Is the Work We Built the Company Around
We are not a solar sales company that also does repairs. We are a service company. We do not sell new systems, we do not knock doors, and we have no interest in telling you the fix is a full replacement.
We service every brand and every inverter, we are licensed and insured under TECL #33444, and the single most common sentence we say is this one: it does not matter who installed it. Repairs, diagnostics, cleanings, panel removal and reinstall for a new roof, battery additions, EV charging. Across the San Antonio and Austin metros and the Hill Country in between.
If your system has been sitting there for months doing who-knows-what, a real inspection is the fastest way to find out where you stand.
