The Solar Panel

The module itself — glass, cells and an aluminium frame. The part everybody pictures when they think “solar,” and the part that fails least often.

Specs & why they matter

  • Typically 400–500 W per module on a residential roof today
  • Tempered glass over crystalline-silicon cells in an anodised aluminium frame
  • Power output is normally warranted for 25 years — the longest-lived part of the system
  • Degrades slowly and predictably, so a sudden drop in production almost never starts here

The Optimizer, Behind the Panel

One power optimizer per panel, tucked under the top corner of the frame. Flatter and wider than an Enphase micro-inverter, with four cable tails instead of bracket ears — it conditions the panel’s DC rather than converting it to AC.

  • One power optimizer per panel — it conditions the panel’s DC, it does not convert it to AC
  • 25-year optimizer warranty
  • SafeDC drops each module to a safe touch voltage whenever the inverter is off

The Central Inverter

The white box on the wall that does all the DC-to-AC conversion for the whole array, with the DC safety switch and its round rotary handle built into the bottom of it.

  • Up to 99% weighted efficiency — the first inverter to reach a 99% CEC rating
  • 12-year standard warranty, extendable to 20 or 25 years
  • The HD-Wave design is markedly smaller and lighter than the inverters it replaced
  • DC safety switch and its rotary handle are built into the bottom of the case
  • No screen at all — commissioning and diagnostics run through the SetApp phone app

Monitoring & the Energy Meter

The meter and the connection that report what the array is making and what the house is using. The piece almost nobody checks — and the reason so many systems sit half-broken for months.
